Barry Timothy Wood

Barry Timothy Wood

With arms opened wide, the Lord welcomed Barry Timothy Wood into his presence on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, in the early morning hours.

Funeral services will be held noon Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in the Mulberry Community with Rev. Kent Wood and Brother Harrold Wood officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery

Barry was born March 21, 1963, in Wilkes County to Stacy and Mabel Brown Wood. He witnessed for the Lord to many friends, family and visitors until his illness in recent days lay hold to his strength. He loved his church family at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and when worship time was held, he was found faithful.

He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his two sons and friends. Deer hunting was a father-son tradition with both Jacob and Daniel, and his abilities to know just where to hunt were awesome.

Trout fishing was a love of Barry’s and he enjoyed it tremendously with his buddies Greg, Stevie and Chad. Trying to decide what power bait to use was more interesting sometimes than hearing the stories about “the one that got away.”

Barry was loved by his family to the greatest depths anyone could image. Brothers that would pray for him and with him and sisters that called each day to check on “Bear.” Love unconditional-just like the Lord showed him.

We, the family of Barry, would love to thank the members of the Mountain Valley Hospice team and Wilkes Cancer center for all the care and love given to the entire Wood family. Also, we would love to thank the staff at Wilkes Medical Center, especially the OB department for the prayers, cards and help for the past few months. Also thanks to Mt. Zion Baptist Church family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Wood and Diane Wood Brown.

Barry is survived by his wife, Janet Lael Wood of the home; two sons, Jacob Austin Wood of the home and Daniel William Wood and wife, Caroline Green Wood, of Bonaire, Ga.; a grandson, Harrison William Wood; three sisters, Madge Shumate and husband, Larry, Katrina Clonch and husband, Ray, and Lisa Wood, all of North Wilkesboro; three brothers, Harrold Wood and wife, Patty, of Millers Creek, Rev. Kent Wood and wife, Teresa, of Roaring River and Gwyn Wood and wife, Trish, of McGrady; and two special couch friends, Lady Bug and Chipper.

The family requests no food or flowers. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105, or for the funeral expenses.
