The Rev. Albert Ray Childress, 89, of Wilkesboro began his eternal walk with his Lord on May 12, 2020. He was born to Vance and Hester Blackwelder Childress.

Albert served in the U.S. Air Force and was the pastor of many churches in Florida and North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his brothers, Ned, Hugh and Steve, and one grandson, Stephen Critz.

Those left to cherish the memories of Albert include his wife of 67 years, Snookie Pennell Childress; two daughters, Melody Critz (Steve) and Kim Bouchillon (Jimmy); two brothers, Rowe and Michael; three sisters, Linda, Paulette and Joan; six grandchildren, Amanda Critz Staley (Michael), Kaitlyn Bouchillon, Sarah Critz Caudle (Jeremy), Daniel Bouchillon, Matthew Bouchillon and Jameson Bouchillon; one great-grandchild, Alexys Caudle; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service for the Rev. Childress was held at Taylorsville City Cemetery on Friday, May 15,2020, at 1:30 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Mark Marshall.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse/Donor Ministries, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28607 or Forgiven Ministry, 200 Macedonia Church Road, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service.
