Youth pre-apprenticeship applications are being accepted by the Wilkes County Schools Career and Technical Education department, in partnership with Wilkes Community College and Apprenticeship Wilkes.

The deadline to apply is March 19.

A pre-apprenticeship is a paid, 160-hour summer experience in which a high school student 16 or older is employed by a local company, takes relevant college courses and becomes eligible to be selected to a full apprenticeship for the sponsoring company.

All registered youth apprentices receive a guaranteed progressive wage scale, a 100% community college tuition waiver and first-hand on-the-job training.

Youth pre-apprenticeship positions are available with Dreamwalls, Interflex, Window World, Rodney Shepherd Construction, Doug Coffee Construction, Jimmy McGlamery Construction, Randy Shew Electric, Blue Ridge HVAC, Accordius and Samaritan’s Purse.

Pre-apprenticeship applications are on the Wilkes County Schools website under Career and Technical Education.

For more information, contact Wayne Shepherd, CTE director, at or by calling 336-651-7133.
