Pickup rolls into front of house

FORD F-150 PICKUP rolled backwards across the Dollar General store parking lot, crossed Rock Creek Road and stopped when its right rear corner hit the front of Lois Wood's house. The woman who had been driving and had exited the pickup was injured trying to stop it.

A woman seriously injured her arm when her pickup started rolling backwards after she exited and she tried to stop it Saturday in Mountain View, said emergency personnel at the scene.

The pickup rolled downhill across a Dollar General store parking lot, crossed Rock Creek Road and stopped when its right rear corner hit the front of Lois Wood's wood frame house. It broke a large window near the front door.

Wood, at home when the pickup hit, said her initial thought when she heard the crash was that her cat had caused a large mirror to fall. The mirror was given to her father when he retired from Carolina Mirror in North Wilkesboro.

Wood wasn't injured. Her home is next to the Mountain View Medical Center, between the intersection of Rock Creek and Airport roads and the intersection Rock Creek, Mountain View and Traphill roads.

The driver of the pickup, in her early 70s, apparently had just parked the pickup at Dollar General when the incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported her to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The Mountain View Fire Department also responded. Trooper Zach Jennings of the N.C. Highway Patrol is the investigating officer.

The name of the woman who was injured wasn't immediately available.
