A Wilkes County man was in critical condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem Monday as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle wreck Saturday on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Watauga County.

Parkway spokesman Leesa Brandon said William Clegg Scroggs, 65, of Moravian Falls was ejected from his northbound motorcycle when it ran off the roadway near Parkway Milepost 278.7, which is near Grandview Overlook in the Deep Gap community.

Brandon said the accident happened about 2 p.m. Saturday and that Scroggs sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Watauga Medical Center in Boone and then flown by AirCare helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist.

Scroggs was riding with a small group of motorcyclists when the accident occurred.
