The Wilkes Art Gallery plans to display artwork from students in the Wilkes County Schools in Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro storefronts and other establishments instead of at the gallery for Youth Art Month in March to avoid having a crowd during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representatives of businesses and other establishments interested in having student artwork in their front windows throughout March are asked to contact Ashley Barton, Wilkes Art Gallery director, at 336-667-2841 or at ashley@wilkesartgallery.org.

Barton said the gallery needs to hear from those willing to display student artwork by Feb. 5. “Once we have enough, participants will be contacted by the gallery or a local art teacher who will coordinate the displays,” she said.

Participants won’t be responsible for providing any supplies, Barton added.

The Wilkes Art Gallery typically receives over 250 student art submissions from Wilkes County elementary, middle and high schools.

Each piece of art is mounted on a black 16-inch-by-20-inch matte that can be displayed with special tape. Each piece is labeled with the student who created it and the student’s name, grade and school information.
