Alternative trail access

Mountain bikers and hikers can access the Warrior Creek Trail System by using the trailhead next to the Pump Track, which is near Boomer-Ferguson School Road, while the trailhead near Warrior Creek Campground is closed due to a sinkhole on the road to the campground.

The Wilmington-based U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the closure of W. Kerr Scott’s Warrior Creek Campground on Friday, effective immediately, due a large sinkhole developing under the road to the campground near its entrance.

A Corps press release said the sinkhole is across the entire roadway, making it impassable for motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.

People with reservations impacted by the closure will receive full refunds, the release stated. Bandits Roost Campground and Fort Hamby Park at W. Kerr Scott Reservoir remain open for reservations.

The Warrior Creek Trails trailhead near the entrance to Warrior Creek Campground is also closed and the press release said mountain bikers or hikers can access this trail system via the trailhead next to the pump track, which is near Boomer-Ferguson School Road.
