The annual Veterans’ Day observance on the Wilkes County Courthouse lawn in Wilkesboro is at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Guest speaker will be Crystal Miller of Millers Creek, field operations manager of the N.C. Department of Veterans and Military Affairs. Representatives of local veterans’ organizations will place a wreath on the veterans’ monument in front of the courthouse. There will be other speakers.

Miller is an Army veteran and served a combat tour in Iraq in 2005-2006. She joined the N.C. National Guard in 1996 and was honorably discharged in 2008. Miller, also a mother, became a veterans’ service officer in February 2012.

She graduated from Gardner-Webb University in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree with a focus on human services and in May 2018 from East Carolina University with a master’s degree in adult education.

Sunday’s observance at the courthouse is being organized by the Wilkes Veterans Service Office. Light refreshments will be served.
