A Union Grove man facing arrest warrants for homicide and motor vehicle larceny was taken into custody after a traffic stop in Yadkin County, according to a Facebook post Monday afternoon by Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.
Pierson Worth Colbert, 23, was arrested at the wheel of a 1996 GMC Sonoma truck, which was reported stolen earlier Monday. The traffic stop was along Interstate 77 North.
Campbell said Colbert is charged in the Monday morning death of Robert John Quinn, 44, of Indian Hill Road in Union Grove. Officials found Quinn dead in his driveway from apparent head wounds.
In the Facebook post, Campbell thanked everyone who assisted in the investigation by calling or sending in information and sharing the office’s social media posts.
On Monday morning, the Iredell Sheriff’s Office requested the public’s assistance and help from other law enforcement agencies, including the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office, in locating Colbert and identified him as a suspect in a homicide that occurred in northern Iredell that morning. The public was warned to not approach Colbert.
Deputies found the original suspect vehicle, a Nissan Sentra, with paperwork containing Colbert’s name.
A press release from the sheriff’s office stated Colbert has a criminal history involving drug possession, larceny, trespassing and several driving related charges.
