A Wilkes Emergency Medical Services spokesman reported that a flash fire explosion at a home on Yellow Banks Road in the Mulberry community Tuesday morning left two people injured.

Wilkes EMS Director Tim Pennington said it occurred about 6:30 a.m. when a wood stove was ignited with Coleman fuel.

He said a 55-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man suffered burns in the explosion.

Wilkes EMS transported the woman to the Mulberry-Fairplains Fire Station landing zone, where a Baptist AirCare helicopter picked her up for the trip to the Winston-Salem. The man was transported to Wilkes Medical Center.
