Patrol car in Reddies River

PARTIALLY SUBMERGED—This marked N.C. Highway Patrol Dodge Charger is partially submerged in the Reddies River, the result of a wreck Friday night on Tumbling Shoals Road.

A state trooper escaped injury when his patrol car slid into the Reddies River Friday night on Tumbling Shoals Road in the Wilbar community about eight miles north of Wilkesboro, according to Sgt. R.K. Aldridge of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

At 8:32 p.m., Trooper B.W. Pettit, driver of a marked 2016 Dodge Charger, was traveling south in a sharp, left-hand curve when he went off on the right, slid down an embankment and went into the river, Aldridge said.

Pettit was able to get out of the vehicle, which was submerged up to its door handles, Aldridge said. The patrol car is likely a total loss.

Wilbar first responders were at the scene.
