Trampled by Turtles

Trampled by Turtles is among additions to MerleFest 2022 announced Monday.

Trampled By Turtles, Colin Hay and the Steel Wheels are among the latest lineup additions for MerleFest 2022, which is April 28 to May 1 at Wilkes Community College.

Trampled by Turtles will perform Thursday, Colin Hay on Saturday and Steel wheels on Thursday and Friday of the four-day festival.

These additions and several others were announced Jan. 24. The others are Barbaro, Big Daddy Love, Contenders, Damn Tall Buildings, David Childers and the Serpents, Desure, Eli Yacinthe, Jake Blount, Kaia Kater, Nat Myers, Shannon McNally, Shay Martin Lovette, Sister Sadie, Tenille Townes, Time Sawyer and Tray Wellington.

In addition, it was announced that the Hogslop String Band will host this year’s late night jam at the John A. Walker Center. Jam guest artists will be announced in coming weeks, said a MerleFest spokesman.

MerleFest 2022 artists announced earlier include Emmylou Harris, Greensky Bluegrass, Rissi Palmer, Old Crow Medicine Show, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Steep Canyon Rangers, Allison Russell and We Banjo 3.

Other MerleFest 2022 artists previously announced are Alison Brown, Andy May, Arlo McKinley, Banknotes, Caleb Caudle, Carol Rifkin, Charles Welch, Darrell Scott, Donna the Buffalo, Dr. Bacon, Happy Traum, Jack Lawrence, Jeff Little Trio, Jerry Douglas, Jim Lauderdale, Joe Smothers, Kruger Brothers, Laura Boosinger, Mark Bumgarner, Mitch Greenhill, Pete & Joan Wernick, Peter Rowan, Presley Barker, Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Roy Book Binder, Sam Bush, Scythian, T. Michael Coleman, The Arcadian Wild, The InterACTive Theatre of Jef, The Local Boys, The Waybacks, Tony Williamson, Wayne Henderson and 49 Winchester.

The second annual MerleFest Mega Raffle will be held to raise funds for scholarships at Wilkes Community College. Tickets are on sale and more details are available at More than $170,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, with 5,000 tickets sold. Ticket holders don’t have to be present to win. Raffle tickets are $100 each and include two entries to the drawings.
