Baccalaureate services for graduating seniors at North Wilkes, West Wilkes and East Wilkes high schools are this Sunday.

Wilkes Central High School’s baccalaureate service was this past Sunday at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro to avoid having it on the Memorial Day weekend, said a school spokesman. The speaker was the Rev. Scott Frazier, senior pastor at New Covenant Christian Church.

North Wilkes High

North Wilkes High’s baccalaureate service is in the Family Life Center at Baptist Home Baptist Church in the Mulberry community at 5 p.m. Sunday. The speakers will be Joe Noble, who retired last year as an English teacher at North Wilkes, and Eddie Dancy, youth leader at Fairplains Baptist Church.

Senior Grant Lenderman will introduce Dancy and senior Mattie Cothren will introduce Noble. Other seniors participating in the baccalaureate service are Hailey Brown, prelude and postlude; Charles Reece, welcome and prayer; Ethan Roten, with music; Hannah Shumate, closing prayer; Maggie and Hannah Shumate, “For Good;” and Taylor Harrold, dismissal of seniors.

East Wilkes High

East Wilkes High School’s baccalaureate service is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Mitch Smith, pastor of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in the Pleasant Ridge community, is guest speaker.

Smith will be introduced by senior Jenna Bullard. Other seniors participating in the baccalaureate service are Tammy Prevette, prelude; Bobby Wiles, welcome; Brooklyn Mounce, invocation; Kenia Martinez Soto, introduction of the Madrigals; Hannah Gentry, closing remarks; and Cameron Brown, benediction.

West Wilkes High

West Wilkes High’s baccalaureate service is at 6 p.m. Sunday at Millers Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Brown, pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in the Mount Pleasant community, is guest speaker. The Chamber Singers will sing.

Brown will be introduced by Alex Bryan, senior class vice president at West Wilkes. Other seniors participating in the baccalaureate service are Alex Hernandez, class secretary, with the welcome; Mattie Collins with Students for Christ, with the invocation; Graylan Walker, class treasurer, introduction of the Chamber Singers; and Rachel Shepherd, with Students for Christ, closing remarks.

Graduation ceremonies

High school graduation ceremonies are:

• North Wilkes High, 6 p.m. May 30, John A. Walker Center at Wilkes Community College, Wilkesboro, with Anna Lankford, associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and school board member Sharron Huffman;

• West Wilkes High, 6 p.m., May 31, West Wilkes High gym, Millers Creek, with Dr. Westley Wood, executive director of personnel, and school board member Kirk Walker;

• Wilkes Central High, 8 p.m., May 31, Wes Steele Stadium, Moravian Falls, with Superintendent Mark Byrd and school board member Darren Shumate;

• East Wilkes High, 8 p.m., May 31, Ebb Tharpe Field, Ronda, with Julie Triplett, executive director of technology/chief technology officer, and school board member Leslie Barnes.

Wilkes Early College High School graduation ceremony was Tuesday night at the Walker Center, with Seth Prevette, executive director of finance and chief finance officer, and school board chairman Rudy Holbrook.
