A search for an 11-year-old boy in woods off Sydney Lane and N.C. 115 in the Broadway Fire District Monday afternoon ended with the youth being found unharmed, said Chief Cole Wyatt of the Wilkes Rescue Squad.

Wyatt said the boy was reported missing about 1:30 p.m. and was found when he walked out of the woods about 4:30 p.m. Monday near Sydney Lane. Temperatures were in the mid-30s Monday afternoon.

Involved in the search were the Wilkes Rescue Squad and the Broadway, Moravian Falls and Wilkes-Iredell fire departments.

Wyatt said a drone was used to search from the air and grid search was conducted on the ground. About 30 people were involved in the search.

Wyatt said the boy was unaccompanied when found and is believed to also have walked off by himself.
