The annual Wilkes County Relay for Life is Friday at the North Wilkesboro Rotary Club’s Worth Tomlinson Park near West Park, North Wilkesboro.

Relay for Life raises money for cancer research through the American Cancer Society. It also is way to show support for people fighting cancer, celebrate those who beat the disease and remember loved ones taken by cancer.

Opening ceremonies are at 6 p.m. Friday, luminaries purchased in honor or in memory of others will be lit at dusk and the survivor’s/caretaker’s walk is after the ceremony.

Luminaries are $10 each and can be purchased until 8:30 p.m. Friday at Relay for Life. To buy one before then, email Karen Bumgarner at

Relay for Life teams also raise money for the American Cancer Society.
