Two cars were heavily damaged and the driver of one was seriously injured in a wreck on the western end of Yellowbanks Road in the Mulberry community Friday morning.
Trooper Jacob Cardwell said a westbound 2001 Ford Mustang was passing a vehicle in a no-passing section of Yellowbanks Road (marked with double yellow lines) when it sideswiped an eastbound 2013 Volkswagen about 7:16 a.m. Friday.
The impact left the Volkswagen on its top in the roadway and the Mustang in a ditch on the side of the road, with the driver’s sides of both receiving the worst damage.
Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported the driver of the Mustang to to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
a landing zone at the Mulberry-Fairlains Fire Station, where a helicopter from Hickory arrived and flew him .
The driver of the Volkswagen and a passenger in the Mustang weren’t seriously injured.
Cardwell said charges are pending and the investigation is continuing. Names of the drivers were immediately available. He said both vehicles were total losses.
Mulberry-Fairplains Fire and Rescue and the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office responded, in addition to the N.C. Highway Patrol and Wilkes EMS.
