Snow is pouring down early Friday afternoon on the western end of Longbottom Road in McGrady at the base of the Blue Ridge escarpment, where snow was about 2 inches deep. Accumulation averaged around 5 inches in the higher mountain counties of Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany.
