Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell announced that an arrest was made Saturday night in connection with a shooting death earlier that day in the Fleetwood community.

Howell said Reginald Steve Elledge, 45, of Fleetwood was arrested and charged with murder in the death of Leonicio Ramos Guerrero.

At about 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Ashe County 911 Dispatch received a call advising that an adult male just shot another adult male at a home in the 400 block of Little Gap Road, a dead-end road off Cranberry Springs Road.

Howell said the caller told a dispatcher that after shooting the victim, the suspect fled the scene in a white Ford Explorer Sport Trac SUV.

After a description of the SUV was broadcast by Ashe 911 Dispatch, West Jefferson Police Officer Mike Miller saw a vehicle matching the description pull into the Lowe’s Home Improvement store parking lot in West Jefferson.

Howell said Miller stopped the Ford Explorer and took Elledge, who was driving, into custody without incident.

He said Elledge was transported to the Ashe Sheriff’s Office for further investigative questioning. The investigation lead to his arrest for homicide in Guerrero’s death. Elledge was placed in the Ashe County Detention Center without bond.

No other details were released.
