Icy road conditions in Wilkes County Saturday morning resulted in several wrecks. The forecast calls for temperatures in the upper 20 Sunday morning, making similar slick road conditions likely then.
A 2011 Chevrolet HHR collided with a 2008 Nissan pickup that had already wrecked on ice and was on its side on N.C. 16 North in the Wilbar community, said Wilbar Fire Chief Rick Jennings. The wreck occurred about 8 a.m.
The pickup was driven by Koke Mason Pennington and the Chevrolet was driven by Joseph Barrington Smith Jr. Both drivers had Millers Creek addresses. No additional details were immediately available. Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported both to a hospital.
There also were wrecks on Boone Trail in Millers Creek and on U.S. 421 East Saturday morning.
