Money is being raised to help cover medical expenses of a Wilkes County Emergency Services emergency medical technician (EMT) who is recovering from a June 5 motorcycle accident on N.C. 268 in Caldwell County, about three miles from the Wilkes line.
Crystal Wagoner, also a firefighter and first responder in the Goshen Fire Department, was riding on a motorcycle operated by her husband, Harvey Wagoner, when the motorcycle went out of control and wrecked due to hitting something in the road or a foot peg making contact with pavement.
She suffered multiple crushed and broken bones in her left leg and underwent extensive surgery before being released from a hospital on June 9. Wagoner said she was told she’ll be out of work for three to six months.
The day-long poker run begins at Blue Ridge Harley Davidson in Hickory at 11 a.m. July 17, with registration starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $20 for singles, $25 for doubles and $20 for cars ($5 more for each person in the car beyond the driver). Prizes will go to participants with the top three poker hands.
Wagoner said she appreciates the great support she has received from other emergency services personnel.
