A couple lost their home and all of its contents in a fire Wednesday at 465 South Windy Gap Road in the Little Brushy Mountain Fire District.

Wilkes Fire Marshal Niki Hamby said it was an early 1970s model, singlewide mobile home with wood frame additions, owned and occupied by Stewart and Tammy Minton.

Stewart Minton was home and Tammy Minton was at work when the fire started about 11:30 a.m. “It started in a bedroom around a light fixture and burned quickly,” said Hamby. “There had been ongoing electrical issues and a few months ago they had some repairs made.” He added that Minton escaped without injury.

Hamby said the mobile home was paid for and the Mintons have homeowner’s insurance. The Blue Ridge Piedmont Chapter of the American Red Cross, based in Hickory, is assisting the Mintons.

The Little Brushy Mountain, Broadway and Roaring River fire departments responded, as well as the Wilkes Rescue Squad with an air truck for refilling air tanks.
