On Boone Trail Sunday

Emergency personnel are on the scene of a shooting Sunday that resulted in two deaths. A Wilkes Sheriff’s Office spokesman said it involved a domestic matter.

A shooting incident Sunday in Millers Creek left two men deceased.

The Wilkes Sheriff’s Office identified the two who died as Mickey Wayne Davis, 64, of Purlear, and Marc Royce Brantley, 51, of Millers Creek. A sheriff’s office press release identified Davis as the suspect in Brantley’s death and said Davis died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

A sheriff’s office spokesman said Brantley and Davis knew each other and that the incident involved a domestic matter. The spokesman said the firearm in the case was a handgun.

The press release said deputies responded to a phone call about a shooting at 4216 Boone Trail at about 12:26 p.m. Sunday and found Brantley outside the brick home there with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced Brantley dead at the scene.

The press release said Davis was found lying on the ground nearby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported Davis to Wilkes Medical Center and from there he was flown by AirCare helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

The location of the incident is just south of the intersection of Boone Trail and Pads Road. The Millers Creek Fire Department was also on the scene.
