The Wilkes Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after a shooting incident on Roby’s Road, North Wilkesboro, Tuesday evening.
Barry Keith Johnson, 52, of Elkin Highway, North Wilkesboro, was charged with communicating threats and assault on an individual with a disability.
Capt. Brandon Absher of the sheriff’s office said Edwin Reid Nixon, 76, of Macedonia Church Road, Ronda, shot Johnson in the left shoulder area after he and Johnson were arguing over property while at the home of Nixon’s daughter on Roby’s Road in the Rock Creek community.
Absher said Johnson is charged with assaulting Nixon, who walks with a cane, with his hands. He said Nixon hasn't been charged.
Johnson, shot with a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun, was taken by Wilkes Emergency Medical Services to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. After being released, he was placed in the Wilkes County Jail.
