The North Wilkesboro Police Department charged Donald Chad Ferguson, 42, of Moravian Falls, with 12 felony counts of breaking into a coin operated machine and 12 counts of damaging a coin operated machine.
Interim North Wilkesboro Police Chief Rob Thornburg said many of the incidents resulting in charges against Ferguson were captured on surveillance video.
Thornburg said Ferguson faces charges filed by the Wilkesboro Police Department and Wilkes Sheriff’s Office for similar crimes.
He said the three departments worked together to identify a suspect in the incidents.
Many of them occurred in late May.
The Taylorsville Police Department arrested Ferguson on May 31 on three counts apiece of felony breaking and entering into a coin operated machine and larceny from a coin operated machine and four counts of destruction/damage/vandalism of property.
Ten more charges were filed against Ferguson in Alexander County on June 1.
He is in the Alexander County Detention Center with a secured bond of $240,000.
In an unrelated investigation, said Thornburg, the North Wilkesboro Police Department charged Austin Jimmy Wingler, 28, of Millers Creek, with two counts each of breaking into a coin operated machine and damage to a coin operated machine and one count of larceny.
He said Wingler was identified by surveillance video at the IGA on N.C. 115 and and at Ultimate Car Wash on N.C. 268 East.
