A man was fatally injured when he wrecked a pickup early Saturday morning on Traphill Road near Longbottom Road, according to Trooper Z.M. Jennings of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Christopher Nicholas Arquitt, 27, of John P. Frank Parkway, Traphill, was taken to a landing zone near the scene by Wilkes Emergency Medical Services and then flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem by Wilkes Emergency Medical Services, Jennings said.
Arquitt, who sustained multiple trauma, died at Baptist around 5 a.m., the trooper said.
Around 1 a.m., Arquitt, driver of a 1992 Toyota Tacoma, was traveling south out of a curve when he went off on the left, struck a ditch and became airborne, Jennings said. The truck overturned and hit trees before coming to rest on its top.
Jennings noted that Arquitt wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The trooper said his speed was estimated at 60 to 65 mph.
Trooper J.R. Miller was the primary investigator of the accident, assisted by Jennings.
The Traphill Fire Department assisted at the scene.
