Man dies from injuries received in wreck

Obed Ulises Garcia, 31, of Moravian Falls, was operating a 2004 Nissan Maxima southbound on Moravian Falls Road when the car went off the right side of the road, came back onto the road and crossed the center line, went off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, overturned and came to rest on its passenger side, said Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Casey said the wreck occurred about 12:50 a.m. May 12 near where Cain Ridge Road intersects with Moravian Falls Road. Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported Garcia to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.

Casey said Garcia was wearing a seatbelt but was ejected from the car. He said the initial investigation indicated excessive speed was a contributing factor in the collision. Moravian Falls Road was closed for about an hour. The Moravian Falls Fire Department also responded.
