The Wilkes Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with 10 counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of attempted indecent liberties with a child in a case involving four different victims, said Chief Deputy David Carson.
Michael Scott Hoover, 49, was arrested Thursday night at his home on Haymeadow Ridge Road in Hays, said Carson. Late Monday afternoon, he was still in the Wilkes County Jail with a $200,000 secured bond.
He said that in addition to the charges filed by the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office for offenses that occurred at various locations in Wilkes, the State Bureau of Investigation charged Hoover with two counts of indecent liberties with a child.
He said one of these two additional counts is for an offense that occurred in Forsyth County and the other for an offense that occurred in Watauga County. Carson said the two additional counts involve two different victims, but they are among the four who are victims in the incidents that occurred in Wilkes.
He said all of the victims were between ages 12 and 17 when the offenses occurred over the last two years. Carson described all of the victims as “family acquaintances” of Hoover, but not relatives.
He said the investigation began as a result of at least one victim telling an adult what had happened, and this was reported to law enforcement. Det. Nancy Graybeal investigated for the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office.
