Yadkin River Greenway scene

Prints of a painting by local artist William Vance Nichols of a scene along the greenway are being sold for $100 each as a greenway fundraiser.

The Yadkin River Greenway Council is selling numbered prints of a painting by local artist William Vance Nichols as a greenway fundraiser.

The painting depicts an eastern bluebird atop a colorful bluebird box along the greenway, with the Yadkin River in the background. They’re $100 each, with all proceeds going to the greenway.

In addition, the council is offering sponsorships of colorfully-painted bluebird boxes for placement along the greenway for $100 each. They’re available at the greenway office, which is in the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce building at 717 Main Street, North Wilkesboro.

This effort, led by council member Graham Wyche, has resulted in numerous bluebird boxes being placed along the greenway the last two years.

R.G. Absher, greenway executive director, said there has been a noticeable increase in bluebirds along the greenway since the boxes started going up. Absher said the greenway is an N.C. Birding Trail and draws many bird watchers.
