Rep. Jeffrey Elmore of North Wilkesboro was appointed full appropriations chairman for the General Assembly’s biennium session earlier this month by Rep. Rep. Tim Moore of Cleveland County, reelected House speaker.
Elmore and Moore are both Republicans.
Elmore was officially sworn-in and seated as representative of House District 94, which includes Wilkes and Alexander counties, on Nov. 13. This is his fifth term in the General Assembly.
“It is a true honor to serve the people of Wilkes and Alexander counties in the N.C. House,” said Elmore. “I am humbled by the confidence of the voters of the 94th District to serve them in Raleigh. In my new role as an appropriations chair, we must move the state of North Carolina forward as we navigate this unprecedented time.”
Elmore also is chairman of the appropriations committee for education and is a member of the House agriculture, education K-12 and pensions and retirement committees.
The opening day ceremony on Nov. 13 marked the official start of the 2021-22 legislative session. Legislators took the oath of office, agreed upon chamber rules for the session and elected leadership for each chamber. Legislators were scheduled to return today to begin the long session.
