The 49th annual Wilkes County Agricultural Fair begins Tuesday (today) and continues through Saturday at the North Wilkesboro Rotary Club’s Worth Evan Tomlinson Park, adjacent to West Park in North Wilkesboro.
Gates open at 5 p.m. each day except Saturday, when they open at 1 p.m. Admission is $8 at the gate, with ages 12 and under admitted free.
Wristbands for rides are $17 on Tuesday, $20 Wednesday through Friday, and $25 on Saturday. Coupons good for $5 off ride bracelets are on the North Wilkesboro Rotary Club Facebook page.
Veterans with ID may buy one wristband and get a second one free. Free wristbands are given to attendees on their birthday (with ID proof).
This year’s fair features more than 25 carnival rides for all ages by Inners Shows, as well as food and games. Also featured are the E-Z Ride Petting Zoo, a bicycle giveaway, a three-ring circus and clowns, Buffalo Barfield and the Lovely Bumadean.
It also features New Extreme Wrestling matches from Thursday through Sunday, and a hay bale decorating contest.
The ever-popular lawnmower races begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and are free to spectators with regular admission. Gates open at 2 p.m. and practice starts at 4:30 p.m.
4-H exhibits, coordinated by the Wilkes Cooperative Extension Service, will again be on display in the Exhibit Hall. Each year about 500 items ranging from photographs, horticulture, quilting and more are on display.
The event has been sponsored for over 30 years by the Rotary Club of North Wilkesboro. Proceeds from the fair are donated by the club to local nonprofits in Wilkes County and used as scholarships for local students, the YMCA’s summer program for children and more.
