Felony charges against 40 people as a result of investigations over the last 2½ months by Wilkes Sheriff’s Office narcotics officers were announced Friday.

The cases include the seizure of 430 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of about $14,000, 240 pain pills (mostly oxycodone) worth about $7,200, 15 grams of heroin worth about $800 and 1,347 pounds of marijuana worth about $10,000.

Capt. Craig Dancy, who heads the sheriff’s office’s narcotics unit, said many of the cases resulted from citizens reporting suspicious activities to the sheriff’s office.

He also said the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office and Det. Tim Sims of the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

Dancy said people arrested included the following in cases involving enough controlled substances to result in trafficking charges:

• Carl Terrell Richburg Jr., 32, Old Rural Hall Road, Winston-Salem, and Kierra Renea Adams, 23, Meadows Ridge Court, Winston-Salem, are charged with conspiring with each other to traffic in heroin. Richburg is charged with two counts and Adams is also charged with one count of trafficking in heroin. Richburg is also charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver (PWISD) heroin, selling heroin and drug offenses within 1,000 feet of a school. Dancy said they were arrested in an undercover drug buy on Red, White and Blue Road near the U.S. 421 interchange on Feb. 7. He said Adams was driving the car and seven grams of heroin were seized;

• Edward Lee Griffith, 62, Parsonsville Road, Purlear, charged with trafficking in meth, PWISD meth and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance. Dancy said 120 grams of meth and pills were seized there at Griffith’s home, where he said he was selling;
