The Elkin Police Department charged a woman with felony death by motor vehicle and aid and abet impaired driving in connection with a fatal wreck around midnight March 27, stated Elkin Police Corp. Walker Trexler on Friday.
Trexler said Jamie Nicole Messick, 34, of Boonville, was arrested by the Yadkin Sheriff’s Office on Thursday and given a $150,000 secured bond.
Messick was a passenger in 2001 Ford car driven by Tammy Lynn Hinson, 44, of Boonville when the Ford struck a 1995 Nissan pickup driven by Johnny Monroe Adams, 62, of Ronda.
Trexler said Messick was charged because she was the registered owner of the Ford and she let Hinson operate it while Hinson was impaired.
The Ford was northbound on North Bridge Street and the Adams vehicle was crossing North Bridge Street from Market Street when the wreck occurred, said Elkin Capt. Josh Tulbert.
Hinson died at the scene and Adams declined transport by Surry County Emergency Medical Services.
The N.C. Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.
