At front entrance

A Buick crashed into the front entrance of the Riverside Medical Associates building in North Wilkesboro and hit a woman inside late Monday morning.

A woman was seriously injured when a car crashed into the front entrance of Riverside Medical Associates at the end of 13th Street in North Wilkesboro just before 11 a.m. Monday.

Sgt. Michael Sampson of the North Wilkesboro Police Department reported that John David Turner, 77, of North Wilkesboro said he was attempting to park in front of the medical office when he accidentally pressed the gas pedal of his 1994 Buick Roadmaster while intending to press the brake pedal.

Sampson said the car drove up a sidewalk and entered the building through the front entrance and a wall and struck Lee Ann Triplett, 49, while she was in the lobby.

North Wilkesboro Police Chief Rob Thornburg said the car was on top of Triplett until she was freed by members of the Wilkes Rescue Squad and North Wilkesboro Fire Department.

Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported Triplett to Wilkes Medical Center, where she was flown by an AirCare helicopter to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem.

The building had about $18,000 in damage. The investigation is continuing.
