Candidate filing for elections later this year in North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro begins at noon July 5 and closes at noon July 19. Election Day in the town races is Nov. 5.

Filing at the Wilkes County Board of Elections office will be for the following elected positions:

• North Wilkesboro commissioner (three seats), filing fee $10;

• Wilkesboro mayor, filing fee $84;

• Wilkesboro councilman (two seats), filing fee $50.

The deadline for a candidate to withdraw a notice of candidacy is 5 p.m. July 16.

To file for municipal office, a person must be a registered voter in Wilkes County, a resident of the municipality in which the person is filing and at least 21 years old.

The Town of Ronda won’t hold elections in 2019 because they will now be conducted in even-numbered years, starting with November 2020, under legislation signed into law this month.

More information about filing as a candidate is available at www.wilkescounty.net or by calling the Wilkes County Board of Elections at 336-651-7339.
