Firefighters found a body burned beyond recognition after extinguishing a mobile home blaze in Hiddenite early Wednesday morning, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Alexander County Emergency Communications received a report of an explosion and fire at the residence at about 6 a.m. Wednesday. The north end of the mobile home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The body was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for an autopsy. A final determination of the cause of the fire hasn’t been made, the sheriff’s office stated.

Agencies responding included the Hiddenite, Stony Point and Taylorsville fire departments. The Alexander Sheriff’s Office, Alexander Fire Marshal’s Office, State Bureau of Investigation and State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.
