Attempted murder charged after shooting

Charged Sunday as a result of the investigation is Adam Matthew Brown, 42, of Ferguson, who hadn’t been taken into custody on the charges by late Monday afternoon. Wilkes deputies went to 415 Colony Lane, a short, dead end road off U.S. 421 West in the Maple Springs section of Purlear, in response to a report of a shooting there a few minutes after 9 p.m. Saturday.

Major Logan Kerr of the sheriff’s office said that upon arrival, deputies found the shooting victim with a gunshot wound to the head and secured the scene. He said emergency medical personnel provided care for the victim before the person was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released, but Kerr said late Monday afternoon that the victim was in stable condition at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

A BOLO (be on the lookout) issued for Brown described him as 6’1” and with blue eyes and brown hair. It said Brown was last seen driving a green 1988 Ford Ranger pickup and is believed to be armed. Deputy Wesley Blevins’ report said a semi-automatic, .22-caliber handgun is involved in the case.

Kerr said late Monday afternoon that the investigation by the sheriff’s office and State Bureau of Investigations is continuing.
