Christopher Lee Adams

A man on the Rowan Sheriff’s Office’s “most wanted list” with nine felony identity theft charges was arrested in a remote area of Wilkes County on Oct. 29.

Wilkes Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Christopher Lee “Grizzly” Adams, 34, about 5:15 p.m. after a brief foot chase from a mobile home near the end of East Brocktown Road in the Brushy Mountains, said Det. Steve King of the sheriff’s office.

King said officers went to the mobile home, owned by Adams’ father, after receiving information that Adams might be there.

He said officers were driving up the driveway when they saw Adams running from the back of the mobile home. Adams was caught about 100 yards away, said King.

Rowan authorities said Adams is charged with stealing mail from homes in the Rockwell area off Organ Church Road in Rowan County and with using identity information on the mail on credit applications to apply for credit cards. The credit cards were then mailed to his address.

Rowan authorities said they executed a search warrant at the home in Rowan where Adams lived and found financial cards issued in the names of several victims.

King said Adams recently was released from state prison.
