A first for Wilkes

Hannah Garcia Jimenez became the first female in Wilkes County to be tapped into the Order of the Arrow, which is Scouting’s honor fraternity, this summer. The ceremony occurred at Boy Scout Scout Camp Raven Knob in western Surry County. She is an eighth-grader at West Wilkes Middle School and a member Troop 336, sponsored by North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church. It’s one of only two female Boy Scout troops in Wilkes. Her brother, Juan Garcia Jimenez, is a member of Troop 336’s boy troop. Their parents are Juan Garcia Montoya and Michelle Garcia Jimenez. Hannah said Scouting has helped her open up and be more accepting of learning new things. For more information about joining the boy or girl units in Troop 336, call 336-469-4088 and leave message or call Wilkes District Scout Executive Kevin Cheek at 336-406-1414. The Scouts standing in the background are Order of the Arrow officers for the Old Hickory Council. They are, from left, Bradley Krpejs, Christian Duggins, Jayden Weavil and Connor Warlow.
