Two vehicles were heavily damaged in a wreck about 10 a.m. Friday on N.C. 16 North in the Wilbar community that nearly left one of them in the South Fork of the Reddies River.

A 2003 Toyota car driven by Joshua Shane Griffin of Griffin Lane, Millers Creek, and a 2006 Dodge pickup driven by Rodney James Spears of Windy Ridge Road in the Mulberry community collided near the intersection of Elisha Staley Road and N.C. 16 North.

Both vehicles went down an embankment and a tree growing along the South Fork of the Reddies stopped the Toyota from entering that stream.

Emergency personnel said there were no serious injuries.
