Read for the Record

Stacey Robbins, a pre-kindergarten teacher at Moravian Falls Elementary School, reads “Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away” by Meg Medina to her students on Oct. 29. The book, which celebrates the enduring power of friendship over time and distance, was read as part of a national campaign called Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, which brings young children and adults together to read the same book on the same day in communities all over the world. Each participating classroom was given the book to share for story time, and each book was donated to the classroom as a gift. The books in Wilkes were donated by the Wilkes Community Partnership for Children, which joined the campaign so that every child in Wilkes will enter kindergarten prepared to succeed. For more information on joining future campaigns and events, call 336-838-0977.
