Cooper told reporters Thursday that the coronavirus situation in the state will get worse before it gets better, and that cooperation and social distancing will help slow the spread of illness.

He also said that community spread of COVID-19 had been confirmed in a Wilson County case. Before the announcement, all North Carolina patients had been exposed to a person who had tested positive or had been connected with people who traveled from elsewhere.
