West Wilkes wrestling to hold event for alumni

All West Wilkes Wrestling Alumni will be given FREE Admission to the Blackhawks’ tri match on Friday, Jan. 24, at West Wilkes High School.

Wrestling action will begin at 5:30 with the Blackhawks facing Mountain Valley Athletic Conference foe Elkin.

All alumni present will be recognized following the Elkin-Statesville match (at around 6:15-6:30 p.m.)

The Blackhawks will close out the evening against the Greyhounds.

Journal-Patriot looking for stringers

The Wilkes Journal-Patriot is looking for writers and photographers to help continue its coverage of Wilkes County athletics.

Duties would include attending games, keeping statistics, writing stories and taking photos to be published in the Journal-Patriot’s printed and online editions. There would also be some use of social media (primarily Twitter).

The job is primarily nights and some weekend work, mainly taking place from August-to-May. Writing and photography experience is preferred but not required, although a passion for sports, a good attitude and a willingness to learn are mandatory.
