The Rev. Amos Combs celebrated his 80th birthday with a surprise party in his honor on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church. The event was given by his family.

Friends and family gathered to celebrate his birthday and his 50 years of preaching the gospel. Rev. Combs has served as pastor at six churches over the years and is currently the pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in the Brushy Mountain community.

Approximately 200 guests enjoyed light refreshments, singing, a piano solo, pictures of the churches he has served, and a slide show of family pictures over the years.

Rev. Combs is married to Iris Combs. They have two daughters, Brenda Miller and husband, Dean, and Nancy Thompson of Millers Creek, and two sons, Michael Combs and Joey Combs and wife, Chastity, of Millers Creek. They also have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was born May 24, 1936.
