Johnny H. and Jane T. Billings celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 22.

The couple has one son, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Hosting the celebration were the couple’s son and daughter-in-law, Tim S. and Renay Billings; their grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jonathan and Erica Billings; and Mrs. Billings’ brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Kim Taylor.

The couple and guests were served a meal prepared by Blake Sebastian. The three-tiered cake was prepared by Donna Harris. Decorations kept to the diamond anniversary theme of white and silver. A collage of memory photos of the couple was displayed.

Billings served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. He retired from Lowe’s Hardware 1978. He continued working while owning and operating Johnny Billings Sawmill and Johnny Billings Hauling until 2018. Mrs. Billings retired from Duke Power after 33 years of employment in 1993.

Billings attributed the longevity of their marriage, “to try to get along and be as happy as you can.” Mrs. Billings said, “A ton of tolerance and even more forgiveness.”

Mr. and Mrs. Billings were married June 6, 1959, in Traphill. The Rev. Arthur Gambill officiated.
