Eugene and Sue Goforth Owings were honored with a surprise 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Welcome Home Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, given by their children.

Mr. and Mrs. Owings were married Aug. 13, 1966, in Alexander County, by the Rev. Wade Miller.

The couple has two sons, Tim Owings, and wife Kristy, of Dickson, Tenn., and Bradley Owings of Raleigh. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Owings is a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Duane Church Leasing, Lowe’s Service Center and for Fleet Master Inc., from which he retired. He now enjoys working on his farm tractors, gardening, yard work and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Owings worked for Sears Roebuck Catalog Store, DML Inc. and Western Southern Life Insurance Inc., from which she retired. She now enjoys tending to her flowers, gardening, attending church, scrapbooking, reading and spending time with family and friends.

“Mr. and Mrs. Owings believe the key to their long and happy life together is always remembering I Corinthians 13:4-8,” said a family member.
