On May 4, Bill and Burma Millsaps Bellinger of Union Grove celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They renewed their vows at Central Baptist Church, which was officiated by  her brother, the Rev. Ronnie Millsaps. A reception followed at Cagney’s Kitchen with family and friends.

The Bellingers met and married in Alaska. Mr. Bellinger was working as a state trooper and Mrs. Bellinger was employed in an interior decorating store. “It was unusual to meet an Iredell County girl in Alaska,” Mr. Bellinger said.

The couple left Alaska in 1982  and moved to his home state of Washington, and then to Wilkes in 1998 to help care for Mrs. Bellinger’s mother, Anna Lou Millsaps,  who lived to be 106.

They have two children, Phil Pope of North Wilkesboro, and Carroll Pope of Alaska, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
