LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF THE GENERAL ELECTION

NOVEMBER 5, 2019

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN…. Pursuant to G.S. 163A-769(8) the General Election will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019. The polls will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. The following polling locations will be open: North Wilkesboro Fire Department, Wilkesboro Civic Center and West Wilkes Middle School Gym. The following offices will be submitted to the voters where applicable:

Town of North Wilkesboro

Town Commissioner (3 Seats)

Town of Wilkesboro

Mayor

Town Councilman (2 Seats)

Voters who are already registered do not need to re-register. Residents who wish to register in Wilkes County for the first time or voters who wish to change their name, address or party affiliation must do so before 5:00 p.m. on October 11, 2019. Registration forms are available at the Wilkes County Board of Elections office, located in the County Office Building, third floor, Room 315 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Mail in registration forms are also available at the Public Library on  10th Street in North Wilkesboro or online at www.wilkescounty.net under the Elections tab. A person may also register at the Department of Motor Vehicles if renewing a license. Voters who are not registered in the county by that deadline may register and vote during one stop early voting only, and will be required to provide documentation of their identity and residence.  Voters who wish to change party affiliation or who have changed name or address must do so by the registration deadline.  Voters who fail to timely make a change in name or address in the county must update the information when presenting to vote, and may be required to vote a provisional ballot.   

Absentee ballots will be available for those persons wishing to vote absentee. Request for mailed ballots will be accepted beginning Friday, October 4, 2019. The last day a ballot can be mailed from the Elections office is Tuesday, October 29, 2019. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Board of Elections Office by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Mailed absentee ballots with a postmark on or before Election Day received no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 8, 2019 will be accepted. One-Stop voting for the General Election will begin Wednesday, October 16, 2019 and will end on Friday, November 1, 2019. One-Stop voting will be conducted in the Board of Elections office.  Hours for One-Stop are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays.

Canvass will be held in the Wilkes Board of Elections office at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019.
