Independence Day was celebrated Thursday in the Wilkesboros, capped off by a sparkling fireworks display at Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro.

The 28th annual Great American Fire Truck Parade through North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro preceded the fireworks.

The Town of North Wilkesboro's Marketplace Meltdown, featuring the live music of the Starlighters, kicked things off at 6 p.m. at the Yadkin Valley Marketplace's Window World stage.

The fireworks display was presented by the Wilkes Law Enforcement Officers Association and sponsored by the Wilkes Journal-Patriot and the governments of Wilkes County, North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro.
