WINTER IN AFGHANISTAN - Sgt. First Class W. Neal Nethery of Lansing of the 875th Engineer Co. of the N.C. National Guard sent photos Tuesday showing the unit working on Camp John Pratt and where it is staying at nearby Camp Marmal in northern Afghanistan. Nethery wrote, “It has been snowing off and on since 26 December. The temps haven’t been above freezing during this period either.” He said the weather hasn’t deterred the 875th as it works to complete final phases of construction projects on Camp Pratt. The 875th arrived in the Middle East in July for a 12-month deployment. Eighty of the 161 members of the company are based in North Wilkesboro and 81 are based in Lexington.

It will be difficult for everybody, especially for the N.C. Guard Unit to start New Year In Afghanistan, without having the chance to be home with their families for the holidays. A veteran friend who spends a lot of his time at San Antonio CHLtold me his son was dispatched as well in Afghanistan. We're all sending them our support and thoughts of peace and compassion.
