A $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11 includes about $15.5 million for the governments of Wilkes County, Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro combined, said a spokesman for Sen. Richard Burr of Winston-Salem.

Speaking remotely during a Wilkes Economic Development Corp. board meeting Friday morning, Burr aide Michael Fenley said the legislation includes $13.27 million for Wilkes County, $1.23 million for North Wilkesboro and $1.01 million for Wilkesboro.

Fenley said the amounts are based on population.

Details on how the money must be used weren’t immediately available.
